Clemente students offer vision of the nation in We, Too, Are America
By Stephanie Jarvis Campbell
Although the Clemente Course in the Humanities has been in existence for years, it was only after a session held last summer that the students’ work was published in an anthology. Titled “We, Too, Are America,” it is an insightful and thought-provoking look into their experiences and lives during a pandemic, political divide and protests against police brutality.
With eight essays from students at the Worcester program, the anthology also features writings from those who were enrolled at the Dorchester, New Bedford and Springfield locations during the summer of 2020. The course was open to graduates of the full-year Clemente Course, which offers tuition-free, college-level classes in creative writing, literature, art history, philosophy and history to underserved adults.
