BGB to be deployed at all Bangladesh ferry terminals from Sunday

The Bangladesh government on Saturday decided to deploy members of Border Guard Bangladesh at all ferry terminals of the country from Sunday morning.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation chairman Syed Md Tajul Islam told New Age around 10:00pm that the decision was taken as per a government decision.
He said that the decision was taken as the flow of people heading towards their homes in districts did not decrease following ban on ferry services while Indian variant of coronavirus found in the country.

Dense fog forced the suspension of ferry services on the key Paturia-Daulatdia and Shimulia-Banglabazar routes on Friday morning
In Manikganj, authorities suspended the service on the Paturia-Daulatdia route to avoid accidents as the ferry s marking lights became dim as the fog thickened.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Aricha office trade department manager Salam Hossain said the ferry service was suspended from 2:30pm on Friday.
Meanwhile, the number of waiting vehicles has increased in both the ferry terminals of the route due to the closure of ferry services.
Hundreds of vehicles carrying goods and passengers were stuck at both ends of the river route.
TDCP, irrigation dept agree to promote tourism

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP) and Punjab Irrigation Department, on Monday.
Under the MoU, the irrigation department will give its Inland Water Transport Company’s assets and rest houses at small dams to the TDCP for tourism purpose. The MoU was signed by irrigation department’s Chief Engineer Moinuddin Sheikh and TDCP General Manager Operations Asim Raza in a ceremony
Later, Punjab Irrigation Minister Muhammad Mohsin Khan Leghari while talking to media persons said rest houses were a precious asset of the department, adding that opening of rest houses for tourism was a good sign. Adviser to the chief minister, Asif Mehmood said the TDCP was taking all possible steps for the promotion of tourism. It is pertinent to mention here
