KLCI slips as glove makers drop, regional markets make guarded gains

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 22): The main index at Bursa Malaysia slipped at the midday break as index-linked glove makers dragged, against the backdrop of guarded gains at regional markets. At 12.30pm, the FBM KLCI fell 4.14 points to 1,580.79. The index had earlier climbed to a high of 1,587.51. Gainers led losers by 453 to 380, while 726 counters traded unchanged. Trading volume was 8.12 billion shares valued at RM3.08 billion. The top losers included Hartalega Holdings Bhd, Supermax Corp Bhd, Top Glove Corp Bhd, ViTrox Corp Bhd, Tasco Bhd, Mi Technovation Bhd, Nestle (M) Bhd, Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd, Amtel Holdings Bhd, Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd and Khind Bhd.

KLCI rises as select blue chips lift, regional markets stay lacklustre

At 9.05am, the FBM KLCI was up 4.24 points to 1,580.08. The early gainers included Nestle (Malaysia) Bhd, Greatec Technology Bhd, Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd (KLK), MR DIY Group (M) Bhd, Petronas Dagangan Bhd (PetDag), Toyo Ventures Holdings Bhd, Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM), Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd and Petronas Gas Bhd (PetGas). Bloomberg said Asian stocks opened with declines as investors assess how rising borrowing costs could impact the equity rally. Treasuries retained losses, it said. JF Apex Research said US markets declined overnight as the rally to record highs fizzled following concerns over rising interest rates and inflation as well as worse-than-expected jobless claims data.

KLCI reverses gains, dips in line with lacklustre region

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 19): The main index at Bursa Malaysia reversed its earlier gains and drifted lower at mid-morning today, tracking lacklustre regional markets following the overnight decline at US markets. At 10am, the FBM KLCI dipped 0.64 points to 1,575.20. The index had earlier risen to a high of 1,582.18. Market breadth turned negative with 658 losers and 258 gainers, while 376 counters traded unchanged. Trading volume was 4.46 billion shares valued at RM1.75 billion. The top losers included Hengyuan Refining Company Bhd, CI Holdings Bhd, Lii Hen Industries Bhd, Aeon Credit Service (M) Bhd, Petron Malaysia Refining & Marketing Bhd, Hartalega Holdings Bhd and Muda Holdings Bhd.

KLCI drifts lower ahead of 4Q GDP data, CNY holiday

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 11): The main index at Bursa Malaysia drifted lower in early trade Thursday ahead of the fourth quarter of 2020 gross domestic product (GDP) data release by Bank Negara Malaysia later in the morning, as well as the impending Lunar New Year holiday, against the backdrop of steady US equity futures. At 9.05am, the FBM KLCI was down 1.13 points to 1,595.72. The early decliners included Nestle (Malaysia) Bhd, KESM Industries Bhd, Heineken Malaysia Bhd, Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd, Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd, PPB Group Bhd, RHB Bank Bhd and Ibraco Bhd. Bloomberg said US equity futures were steady Thursday as investors assessed the implications of weaker than expected American inflation data for the so-called reflation trade that bets on a recovery from the pandemic.

KLCI tracks regional gains, adds 0 64%

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 9): The main index at Bursa Malaysia added 0.64% at the midday break Tuesday, tracking the gains at regional markets. At 12.30pm, the FBM KLCI was up 9.62 points to 1,582.95. The index had earlier risen to a high of 1,586.90. Gainers led losers by 557 to 446, while 458 counters traded unchanged. Trading volume was 3.93 billion shares valued at RM2.28 billion. The gainers included Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd, Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd, Ajinomoto (Malaysia) Bhd, Petronas Dagangan Bhd, PLS Plantations Bhd, Telekom Malaysia Bhd, Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd and MISC Bhd. The actively traded stocks included Dagang NeXchange Bhd, EA Holdings Bhd, Velesto Energy Bhd, Sapura Energy Bhd, QES Group Bhd, KNM Group Bhd and Opcom Holdings Bhd.
