4.4 quake 25 Dec 1:22 am (GMT +3)
An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 occurred early morning on Friday 25 December 2020 at 1:22 am local time near Ak’ordat, Gash-Barka, Eritrea, as reported by the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 10 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.4 as well.

The National Seismological Center of the University of Chile reported a magnitude 4.7 quake in Chile near Illapel, Provincia de Choapa, Coquimbo Region, only 30 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Thursday 24 December 2020 at 9:15 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 49.2 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by INPRES, which listed it as a magnitude 5.0 earthquake. Other agencies reporting the same quake include United States Geological Survey (USGS) at magnitude 4.6, European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 4.6, and German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) at magnitude 4.9.

An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 occurred early morning on Friday 25 December 2020 at 6:09 am local time near Sumbawa Besar, ID.17.Sumbawa (undefined), West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, as reported by Indonesia s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at an intermediate depth of 77 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
