These government actions undermine public trust and confidence in the integrity of the judiciary and other constitutional bodies such as the National Human Rights Commission and the Election Commission. The illegitimate appointments process is not simply an abstract irregularity but will lead to ineffective and weak implementation of critical mandates to protect human rights and other rule of law objectives, the groups said.

SC and Q22 sign MoU with NHRC to enhance human rights legacy of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) and the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 LLC (Q22) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the  National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) to collaborate in raising awareness of human rights issues while continuing to ensure all aspects of human rights are considered in the delivery of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 (Qatar 2022). The MoU between the parties was signed by Hassan Al Thawadi, Secretary-General of the SC, Dr Ali Samikh Al-Marri, Chairman of the NHRC, and Nasser Al Khater, CEO of Q22. Qatar participates in meeting on sidelines of WPFC 2020  10 Dec 2020 - 8:51 QNA Doha: The State of Qatar took part in the High-Level Ministerial Meeting held on the sidelines of the World Press Freedom Conference (WPFC 2020) which is hosted by the Kingdom of the Netherlands in cooperation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco). The State of Qatar was represented at the meeting by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs H E Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi. In a recorded speech to the meeting, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs reiterated the commitment of the State of Qatar to promoting and protecting the right to the freedom of expression, and to ensuring a safe environment for free, independent and pluralistic media, as well as the safety of journalists, and the accountability for crimes as agreed upon in various United Nations resolutions and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, especially Article 16.
