Broad early modern comparative projects often fail to address Africa
at all. A search of the MLAIB [Modern Language Association
International Bibliography] finds that the number of pieces published
in the last thirty years on the subject of globalization is in the
thousands, and yet only 5 per cent of them address Africa or African
countries. When it comes to eighteenth-century studies, the exclusion
is total: not one of the pieces on globalization addresses Africa or
African countries. Not one. This is more than unfortunate. No
arena of study can be successful that has Africa as a lacuna.

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - University of Cincinnati Global Scholars Zedekia Samara and Timoth Akama are planning to give back to their home country Tanzania using the lessons learned on campus.
Samara and Akama arrived in the Queen City last winter through the Village Life Outreach Project, a non-profit in Cincinnati.
âItâs a chance for us to also help some other people if we succeed. and if the chain continues, then we might eventually have a hunger-free world, and a world where every person has got an assurance for health, education, and all the basic needs,â Samara told FOX19 NOW.

February 2021 was the first time that first-year University of Cincinnati student Zedekia Samara had ever encountered real snow.
“It’s refreshing to look at, but the feel of it on the other hand,” Samara says with a hearty laugh on a Zoom call from his UC residence in Morgens Hall.
Samara is one of two students from Tanzania, East Africa, who are attending UC as Global Opportunity Scholars. He arrived on campus in January and the second student and roommate, Timoth Akama, arrived in mid-February. Although they both settled into UC housing at the height of a Cincinnati winter, and during a worldwide pandemic, they have managed to maintain sunny dispositions.
