Rice exporters urged to utilise FTAs to boost declining shipments | Business

The country exported 1.1 million tonnes of rice for 606 million USD in the first quarter of the year, down 30.4 percent and 17.4 percent, respectively, against the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. This represented a rise of nearly 3 per cent over 2019, a very positive result compared to the previous forecast in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Recently, the World Bank had estimated that remittance flow to Việt Nam in the first 10 months of 2020 fell by 7 per cent.

QUEZON CITY, Feb. 28 Amend the restrictive economic provisions of the Constitution to bring in foreign capital to the Philippines and bring our overseas Filipino workers home. This was one of the salient arguments of Marikina 2nd District Rep. Stella Luz Quimbo, who in her sponsorship speech for Resolution of Both Houses Number 2 (RBH 2) prevailed upon the House to pass the resolution in order to adopt proposals that would allow the country to revisit and revise provisions of the Constitution that have discouraged the inflow of badly-needed foreign investments. Quimbo, a respected economist and professor at the University of the Philippines School of Economics before joining public service, told members of the House that the country needs to open its economy to foreign capital.
