ISLAMABAD: The World Bank (WB) is preparing a new Country Partnership Framework (CPF) for the next five years from fiscal year 2022 to 2026 with possible portfolio of $10 to $12 billion for different sectors of economy of Pakistan.
The Pakistani authorities are expecting that the World Bank Group will extend lending of around $12 billion for five years period under the CPF. “Although, the WBG has not officially communicated the exact size of portfolio but it should be around $12 billion,” a top official of the PTI led government confided to The News here on Monday.
The WB’s CPF for five years is in the process of finalization that is expected to be presented before the Executive Board of WB in May/June 2021. “The consultation with relevant stakeholders is underway and the next CPF will be ready by end of the ongoing financial year,” said one official.
Addressing water shortage during pandemic stressed

Islamabad : Speakers stressed the need to address water shortage during the pandemic when handwashing has become a necessity.
They were speaking at a virtual panel discussion organised by WaterAid Pakistan in collaboration with Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) under the 23rd Sustainable Development Conference (SDC).
The discussion was titled ‘Access to Water and Sanitation in post-COVID-19 Pakistan’. The discussion was chaired by Kanwal Shauzab, Parliamentary Secretary Planning, Development and Reform and had panellists from World Bank, WaterAid Pakistan, SDPI and Salman Sufi Foundation.

World Bank approves $300mln loan for projects in Sindh

ISLAMABAD: The World Bank on Wednesday approved $300 million in financing for two projects in Pakistan including the Sindh Resilience Project and the Solid Waste Emergency and Efficiency Project (SWEEP).
“These investments would bolster Pakistan’s efforts to build resilience to natural hazards such as floods and droughts in Sindh, and strengthen solid waste management in Karachi to tackle recurrent urban flooding and public health emergencies in the city,” the bank said in a statement on Wednesday.
Najy Benhassine, country head of World Bank Pakistan said building resilience to natural disasters and health emergencies is an important and urgent agenda in Pakistan that would help save lives and protect the economy.
