People in Malmesbury came together to mark Earth Day with a massive litter pick in their community.
Malmesbury Against Plastic co-ordinated the ‘Big Clean Up’ project, which encouraged residents to do their bit to clean up the town. The group was established to help reduce the town s use of single-use plastic, following the scheme organised by Surfers Against Sewage. Throughout Earth Day (Thursday, April 22) people collected litter across Malmesbury before leaving their collections at the Riverside Centre to be sorted.
Some of the collected rubbish Photo by Photo by Hattie Ellis Staff at Whatley Manor, which recently received a new green star in Michelin s 2021 list, also organised litter-picking outings around their hotel, including around Fosse Way and towards Easton Grey.

Experts support clean, green recovery for better future
Islamabad

Islamabad : Participants of a special webinar on ‘World Earth Day, climate crisis and the road to Glasgow’ have asked developing countries to undertake enhanced global and regional cooperation that plays critical role in responding to growing challenges emanating from climate change.
The Webinar was organised here by Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) in connection with the World Earth Day.
Director Climate Programme, World Resources Institute-India, Ulka Kelkar, said that this year, the earth day was precedented by the pandemic, locust attack and a devastating super cyclone in India and Bangladesh. The challenge for South Asian countries is to develop a low-carbon infrastructure to rely on for a sustainable growth in the future and they need technologies for their climate adaptation and for taping on their renewable energy resources.
Days after Bollywood stars were called out for being disrespectful to the thousands who are grappling from the surge in COVID-19 cases in India, celebrities such as Janhvi Kapoor have changed their social media postings to be more mindful of the pandemic.
Kapoor, who was one of the stars who was called out by people on social media for posting ‘frivolous’ images of her recent holiday in the Maldives and flaunting her ‘privilege’ while thousands suffered, attempted to do some damage control with her latest posting of a magazine cover that features her.
“In these trying times, I know it’s important to be sensitive to the troubles we as a country are facing & I would never want to be inconsiderate towards that. This cover, however, and the subsequent posts of it had been committed to a while back and were shot before lockdown,” posted Kapoor.
