Jimmie Johnson Aiming for Indianapolis 500 Debut

Jimmie Johnson Aiming for Indianapolis 500 Debut The seven-time Cup Series champion hopes to test on an oval in August. Icon SportswireGetty Images There is an increasingly likely scenario that could see Jimmie Johnson in an arm-wrestling contest with Tony Kanaan to determine who gets the Chip Ganassi Racing No. 48 in the 106th Indianapolis 500 next May. Maybe I could use two arms to try to beat him, Johnson conceded. Icon SportswireGetty Images This is only a looming problem because the seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion is starting to explore the possibility of making a run at the Greatest Spectacle in Racing. Johnson is currently splitting the No. 48 with the 2004 Indy Racing League champion and 2013 Indianapolis 500 winner.

Strong Indy Lights Leaders Have Eyes on INDYCAR Future

Strong Indy Lights Leaders Have Eyes on INDYCAR Future By Curt Cavin | Published: Jul 23, 2021 Colton Herta, Pato O’Ward and Rinus VeeKay have won NTT INDYCAR SERIES races this year. Don’t think Indy Lights drivers haven’t noticed. The Road to Indy path to INDYCAR has seemingly become more established with each passing season, and 22 of the participants in this year’s Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge are a product of at least one step in the program. Thirteen active drivers have won INDYCAR races as Indy Lights graduates. The number of Indy Lights drivers advancing to INDYCAR each year always varies based on the number of open seats and the financial backing that’s available, but the confidence INDYCAR team owners have in the Road to Indy as a development program is genuine, which bodes well for this class.
