Healthy biodiversity is a must if we want a healthy life. Many species have been crucial parts of the biodiversity that has sustained lives on earth. We eat food but most of us do not produce them so we may not link or think about how food items are being grown. We have been studying pollination and its importance and whenever we talk about pollination then the first thing that comes to our mind is bees.
The visit to the bee laboratory in Backweston coincided with World Bee Day.
Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture Pippa Hackett visited the bee health laboratory at the Department’s Backweston Campus in Co Kildare on Thursday to mark World Bee Day.
The laboratory provides a free bee health diagnostic service to aid beekeepers in the early detection of pests and pathogens which may threaten bee stocks. The programme runs in conjunction with the Department’s research into the pathogens and pests of honeybees.
Commenting on the visit, Minister Hackett highlighted the laboratory’s efforts to keep bee populations healthy and able to fulfil their role in ecosystems.

The star, in collaboration with National Geographic, was snapped with bees all over her for World Bee Day.
The purpose of the shoot was to speak about the importance of protecting bees as she urged on everyone to play their part. With so much we are worried about around the world and so many people feeling overwhelmed with bad news and the reality of what is collapsing, this is one that we can manage, she said. We can certainly all step in and do our part. I don t think a lot of people know what damage they re doing. A lot of people are just trying to get through their day, she added.
