Bae Jun-seo: World champion at 18, Paris 2024 the long-term goal

Bae Jun-seo: World champion at 18, Paris 2024 the long-term goal South Korea s teenage prodigy Bae Jun-seo, whose gold-plated career saw him win the world title at Manchester in 2019 as an 18-year-old, has already fixed his eyes upon the highest peak of the Olympic Games. A career that began with a world junior title in 2016 reached its highest point so far when he beat Russia’s Georgy Popov 53-24 in the final of the men’s under-54 kilograms finweight class. Despite this success, Bae will not be able to compete at the re-scheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympics if they go ahead this summer as the under-54kg is not one of the eight Olympic weight divisions.
