COVID-19 Updates | US, EU, UK
Thursday evening, US President Biden marked one year since COVID-19 restrictions commenced in the United States in an address to the nation. He stated the US is on “war footing” in the Administration’s effort to vaccinate the population, while suggesting Americans could return to a more normal routine by 4 July and related US Independence Day celebrations, if they consent to receiving the vaccine. Toward this goal, he announced that by 1 May, every adult in America would be eligible for the vaccine. Currently, adults over 65 years old, those with certain medical conditions and emergency/essential workers are eligible for vaccines in most states/local jurisdictions.
Islamabad: The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has issued a notification authorizing the use of the Chinese COVID-19 vaccine Sinopharm for people over 60 years of age. The measure has been taken two months after the vaccine was first approved for use in the country.
A spokesperson of the Ministry of National Health Services (NHS) confirmed the authorization for the said age group saying all healthcare workers registered with National Immunisation Management System (NIMS ) above 60 years could now get themselves vaccinated from designated vaccine centers.
Earlier, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health (SAPM) Dr Faisal Sultan had cautioned that the Sinopharm shot was not recommended for people older than 60 years. However, later he himself dismissed the notion and got himself inoculated with the same vaccine. According to the health authorities senior citizens other than health workers would also start receiving jabs soon.

Eric Blair, or George Orwell if you like, predicted in his book, “Nineteen Eighty Four: A Novel,” written in 1948, but published in 1949, that a phenomenon he called “Big Brother,” will be monitoring and dictating the direction and the quality of the lives of citizens, by 1984.
The world would become a dystopia, a state or society, usually totalitarian and despotic, where citizens go through suffering and injustice. The world, under one government, would routinely endure war and other disasters.
The major themes of “1984” are exposure of the evils of totalitarianism, mass surveillance, (which the social media have perfected), repressive regimentation of the lives of citizens and conduct or behaviour prescribed by Big Brother that is watching them all the time.
