After nearly a year of heightened community need in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and other challenges, the University of Chicago will expand its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service into a full week of virtual service projects and events starting on Jan. 17.
The Week of Service presented by UChicago’s University Community Service Center (UCSC) within the Office of Civic Engagement in partnership with UChicago Laboratory Schools and UChicago Charter School will give local residents and community-based organizations an opportunity to take part in activities and support efforts ranging from resume review services from the University’s Office of Career Advancement to yoga and wellness classes with University students and faculty and staff from more
during the Fall 2020 semester.
The work of La Salleâs COVID-19 contact tracers in the fall semester focused on mitigating spread of the coronavirus at La Salle in order to keep the campus community as healthy as possible. Approximately 40 students, in small and physically distanced cohorts, maintained regular shifts at a phone bank that was arranged in a vacant office space at St. Benilde Tower, home of La Salleâs School of Nursing and Health Sciences. Others worked their shifts from home. They connected with La Salle students who maintained an active campus presence and alerted the University that they had tested positive. La Salleâs contact tracers asked and answered questions, offered counsel, directed them to University and city resources, and, importantly, aimed to provide peace of mind. They also called those who had tested positive in order to determine others in the La Salle community with whom they possibly inadvertently exposed to the virus.

At the request of the New Jersey Department of Health, Princeton University will be one of numerous distribution points for the COVID-19 vaccine once available throughout the state. The University is working in partnership with the state of New Jersey and municipality of Princeton to support vaccination efforts.
Princeton plans to host on-campus clinics to administer vaccines to University undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, staff, retirees and affiliates. The clinics will also administer vaccines to household members of graduate students, faculty, staff, retirees and affiliates.
A survey will be emailed today to members of the University community to gauge interest in the vaccine. The survey is voluntary and will be used for planning purposes only. More information is available on the COVID-19 Resources website.

Community and family celebrate the life of the University’s 14th president
Friends from around the country gathered virtually Thursday, Jan. 7, to remember President Emeritus Arnold Weber as an influential leader who helped elevate the University academically and financially.
Weber, who served as the 14th president of Northwestern from 1985 to 1994, died in August at age 90. Nearly 60 guests tuned in to listen to colleagues and family share stories about Weber, affectionately known as “Arnie.” “An Arnold Weber Retrospective” was hosted by the Northwestern Emeriti Organization.
