TAXILA: A ruling party Member of the National Assembly (MNA) lashed out at the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Inaf (PTI) government for public issues, especially corruption, inflation and unemployment, warning that if the government failed to address these issues, it would bear the brunt in the next general elections.
Retired Maj Tahir Sadiq from Attock was speaking at a PTI youth wing convention at Hassanabdal on Monday. He criticised the government for failing to control corruption, inflation and unemployment.
“People are exhausted from the burden of food and fuel inflation and millions have become food insecure due to unemployment,” he said.

A Civil Society Group has decried the plans by educational institutions across the country to resume academic activities without adequate safety measures to contain the devastating impacts of the second wave of COVID-19.
The National Coordinator of Network for Democracy and Development, NDD, Mr Tajudeen Alabede, who made the call in a maiden Virtual Press Conference of the group on the state of the nation said t was discomforting that many governments have not gone beyond merely issuing statements encouraging schools to observe COVID-19 protocols leaving the hapless students, pupils and staff to their fate as adequate safety measures were not put in place by the Federal and State Governments to contain the spread of the disease.

CHAGAI: Member of the National Assembly and Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) leader Mir Mohammad Hashim Notezai has condemned the crackdown on smuggling of Iranian petrol and diesel by the provincial government, saying it is the only source of livelihood for hundreds of thousands of families living in undeveloped and far-flung border areas of Balochistan.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, Mr Notezai said most of the people in these border areas were earning livelihood from this business as there had been no factory and other major sources of income. Besides, he alleged, the government had always ignored these areas, leaving the residents fending for themselves.

Police arrested 14 people in overnight raids after a Hindu shrine was set on fire and severely damaged by a mob led by supporters of a cleric in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa s Karak district, officials said on Thursday.
The temple’s destruction on Wednesday drew condemnation from human rights activists and the minority Hindu community.
Local police said they detained at least 14 people in overnight raids and more raids were underway to arrest individuals who participated or provoked the mob to demolish the shrine.
The attack happened after members of the Hindu community received permission from local authorities to renovate the building. According to witnesses, the mob was led by a local cleric and supporters of a religious political party.
