Police, council called to manage traffic as testing soars

Up until 7am on Tuesday, 40,305 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in Wide Bay. A Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service spokesman thanked people for their understanding, co-operation and patience as they responded to the public health alert. A huge thanks to our awesome staff, whether at our fever clinics or in our hospitals, they said. Many of them had to mobilise on short notice to meet the significantly increased demand and they had to adjust to new temporary procedures to ensure we could keep our community safe. The Hervey Bay fever clinic is located at the council carpark adjacent to St Stephen s Hospital corner of Nissen Street and Medical Place, Urraween, and is open from 7.30am to 5.30pm each day.

Witnesses have reported traffic has finally cleared up on the Bruce Highway just south of Maryborough after a truck reportedly drove into a ditch sometime after lunch. A photo posted to social media shows the trailer of a truck jackknifed across the road and the front down an embankment. The incident is believed to have occurred just over the hill from the Puma fuel station on the Bruce Highway between Maryborough and Tiaro. How many Bundy locals got tested in wake of Covid fragments

Premium Content Subscriber only BUNDABERG residents have heeded the advice of health officials by getting covid tested, even during the holiday period. It comes after Queensland Health revealed on Christmas Eve fragments of Covid-19 had been detected in local wastewater. In the two weeks between December 14 and 27, almost 400 covid tests have been done in Bundaberg. The testing period includes when New South Wales saw a cluster of cases and when the sewerage traces were found. December 21 was the busiest day in the last fortnight with 78 tests being done, followed by 56 tests on December 22. But Christmas didn t stop locals getting tested with 12 tests conducted on Christmas Eve with 25 on Christmas Day.

Premium Content Subscriber only Tens of thousands of people across the Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service area have heeded the calls of health officials by getting testing for Covid-19 since the virus reached the country. As of December 23, 35,861 tests have been done at both private and public testing sites across the Wide Bay to date. On Christmas Eve residents around Bundaberg, Bargara, Burnett Heads and Mon Repos were urged to get tested if they were experiencing covid symptoms followings positive traces of the virus being detected in wastewater. Earlier this week Queensland chief health officer Dr Jeannette Young commended the state’s response to getting tested after a cluster broke out in New South Wales.
