This is Good News Sunday, a compilation of some of the more upbeat and inspiring stories published recently by the Daily Herald:
For 17 days, Lucy Westlake and her father, Rodney, climbed until there was nothing but sky above them.
The 17-year-old mountaineer had gotten so used to keeping her eye on the path ahead, to always anticipating her next move and carefully calculating each step, that she half expected to look up and see more icy terrain.

A passerby alerted police about a large display window that was broken at a beauty supply store in the 700 block of Howard Street around 6 a.m. Monday. A brick found nearby was the apparent cause, police said, but nothing was reported stolen. Damage was estimated at $500.
BURGLARY
2800 Harrison
Clothing and personal items were taken from an unlocked 2013 Acura in the 2800 block of Harrison Street between 6:30 p.m. on July 9 and 9 a.m. the following morning.

Gary W. Heckrodt, 53, of 4621 N. Sheridan Road, Chicago, was arrested at 1030 Pitner Ave. at 3:06 a.m. Tuesday and charged with burglary.

The reasons behind the dismissal of Rolling Meadows City Manager Barry Krumstok aren t those alleged in his employment retaliation suit, one of the proponents of his firing said Wednesday. Certainly, something will come out in the near future that lets the public know the council made a decision based on sound judgment and not just emotion, Alderman Nick Budmats said the day after the council s 5-2 vote to fire the longtime city administrator. In time, well-defined and thought-out reasons will be presented, and it will make sense when the whole picture (is presented).
