Rose Scott is the Workshop Coordinator. “We started the program on ZOOM so we weren’t actually able to meet the candidates when we first got them.  The first time that we actually met them was two months after they started the program, when we did an outdoor sash ceremony.  We did continue to do ZOOM meetings until June, and then we started meeting outdoors, started just social distancing outdoors, and we did a few that way.

Infectious Disease Expert: Delta COVID-19 Variant Capable Of Becoming Superspreader Variant

An Atlanta-based infectious disease expert says he has concerns about the Delta coronavirus variant because many segments of the population are not vaccinated, and the country has not reached herd immunity. “This variant is sort of 40-60% more contagious than the previous variant, the Alpha variant, which itself was 50% more transmissible than the original variant,” said Dr. Carlos del Rio, a distinguished professor of medicine, epidemiology and global health and the executive associate dean of Emory University School of Medicine at Grady Health System. He was a guest on Thursday’s edition of “Closer Look.” He told show host Rose Scott that the Delta variant is capable of becoming a superspreader variant, but people who are fully vaccinated should be OK. However, people who are not vaccinated or have preexisting health conditions should take precautions.

On Wednesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Pendley, a fourth-grade teacher and an ex-officio Georgia Board of Education member, talked with show host Rose Scott about her background and passion for teaching. She also shared her thoughts about the Georgia Board of Education’s recent move to pass a resolution banning Critical Race Theory from being taught in K-12 public schools. “I was the first to speak out against the resolution,” Pendley said. “I’ve received hundreds of emails from stakeholders across the state opposing this resolution.”
