Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch will present an executive order at Tuesday night’s city council meeting appointing individuals to the twelve-member Non-Partisan Elections Citizens Committee. The committee will study the advantages and disadvantages of the city’s elections changing to nonpartisan. According to the executive order, Rich Maddux will chair the committee that includes Darvin Adams, Rev. Perry Greenwade, Dan Kemp, Tiffany Mumford-Brame, Kelli Pendleton, Nancy Askew, Andra Gold, Faye Hendricks, Rose Jackson, Diane Wood, and Shannon Worden. The Committee will be tasked with exploring all the pros and cons of changing from the current partisan to nonpartisan elections, as well as the potential impact on voter participation and if it would impact the representation of any particular segment of the community.

The committee chair will be Rich Maddux, a former manufacturing plant executive who now runs The Rabbit’s Basket, an urban farm, with his wife. He has been active in local and state civic work for many years and currently serves on the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

Christian Democratic Party founder Fred Nile to retire from NSW politics after 40 year career

Christian Democratic Party founder Fred Nile has announced he will retire from politics in November after spending 40 years as a member of the NSW parliament. Reverend Nile will likely be succeeded by Lyle Shelton, the former head of the Australian Christian Lobby, who is best known for his vigorous opposition to marriage equality and support of Christian rugby player Israel Folau. Mr Nile, 86, announced his retirement on Sunday evening, saying it had been the privilege of (his) life to represent Christ s values in the parliament on behalf of the citizens of this great state .
