President Lazarus Chakwera has sternly warned that “all bad apples” serving at the country’s various diplomatic missions will be recalled should they not live up to standards or fail to represent the aspirations of Malawians. Chakwera’s warning comes barely two days after the South African government declared some Malawian envoys in Pretoria, South Africa persona non grata after they were implicated in a duty-free alcohol scandal. Six heads of mission that Chakwera appointed, and have been confirmed by the Public Appointments Committee (PAC), have been cautioned to be responsible. PAC chairperson, Joyce Chitsulo, said “the committee has approved six heads of mission.”
