Reconciliation Council Wraps Up Assessment of Peace Proposals
A 15-member committee under the High Council for National Reconciliation responsible for consolidating the dozens of peace plan proposals provided by Afghan leaders wrapped up its work on Thursday.
The committee, which is led by former vice president Mohammad Yunus Qanooni, assessed at least 25 peace proposals provided by different parties, including President Ghani’s peace plan, according to the reconciliation council.
“After five working sessions, the assessment and analysis of views offered by political parties, the government, civil society, the media and citizens were assessed and consolidated,” the reconciliation council said in a statement.
Turkey Conference Will Complement Doha Talks: US Official
An official of the US Department of State on Thursday said that the Turkey conference will complement the ongoing peace talks between the negotiating teams representing the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Taliban and that the United States will be aimed at accelerating the Afghan peace efforts.
“The gathering, as in all facets of this process, will be Afghan-owned and supported by high-level attendants from the international community, building on recent international meetings in support of the peace process,” Ned Price, spokesperson for the US Department of State, said at a press briefing on Thursday.

Afghan Negotiators Try to Reconcile Dozens of Peace Proposals Talks in Istanbul expected to start next week
Preparing for next week’s Istanbul conference, the Afghan government’s High Council of National Reconciliation is trying to get ready by pouring through what has been reported as 25 distinct peace proposals offered by different political parties.
A lot of proposals from other countries are expected to come during the meeting, with the US and others also preparing to push different ideas. President Ghani is keen on his own plan, which started to be reported on over the weekend.
HCNR Hopes Turkey Summit Will Result in Ceasefire
The High Council of National Reconciliation (HCNR) on Wednesday said that the agenda of upcoming UN-led conference on Afghanistan in Turkey will be outlined in a manner in which preference will be focused on the end of war, ceasefire, and the settlement of the conflict based on a joint agreement.
The deputy head of the HCNR, Haji Din Mohammad, told TOLOnews on Wednesday that all preparations have been taken and soon details of the structure of the delegation for the conference will be shared.
This comes days after President Ashraf Ghani also announced a three phases peace plan which included of (1) making peace or holding talks with the Taliban, (2) building peace – with language that hints at a transitional government, and (3) sustaining peace, which indirectly refers to a post-transitional government situation.
