A new building near Utah State University’s campus Quad will house all of the school’s language programs in one.
The plans, including an artist’s rendering of the structure, were unveiled by USU in a news release Thursday. The building will be known as the Mehdi Heravi Global Teaching and Learning Center, named after an Iranian native who received two degrees at the university before becoming a college administrator and philanthropist.
“He has been incredibly generous over the years,” said Joe Ward, dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, in an interview on Friday. “Given his life and career has been international, and so many of his interests have involved building bridges among people, we thought this building would be an appropriate way to recognize him.”
Two vaccination clinics meant for the distribution of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine will be open in northern Utah this week.
The Davis County Health Department will distribute the vaccine at a walk-in clinic at the Davis Conference Center in Layton on Wednesday and Weber-Morgan Health says Nomi Health will distribute it at Megaplex Theatres at The Junction in Ogden on Monday.
According to FOX 13, a Davis County Health Department representative said Utah provided them with 1,600 J&J vaccines.

Easter Sunday is one of the most important dates in Christianity and because of that, it’s a day when church pews are usually packed, but due to the coronavirus, many church buildings were empty last year.
Thanks to declining case counts as well as the vaccine, some congregations are preparing to meet in person this year, while following CDC safety precautions.
At St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in North Logan, church members have been practicing these safety measures like social distancing and mask-wearing since the beginning of the pandemic.
Leaders expect that this Easter Sunday attendance will be at maxim capacity and they are prepared to make accommodations as needed. They have a schedule for Holy Week, with a variety of time frames for mass services to allow for social distancing.

It was a record year in the state of Utah for fishing and hunting licenses.
“It was a pretty significant sales year, as far as our hunting and fishing licenses go, Faith Jolley said. This was by far the most licenses we’ve sold in a one year period. By far.”
Jolley is the public information officer at the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. She said while they suspected there would be an increase in license sales due to the pandemic, it was way more than anticipated.
From March 2020 to February 2021 the DWR sold 417, 883 fishing licenses, which is an increase of more than 100,000 from the year before. 68,265 hunting licenses were sold compared to 50,551 from the year before.
