As protesters stormed the capitol in Washington D.C. on Wednesday, pro-Trump crowds also gathered at the Utah State Capitol Building in Salt Lake City.
Filing is open for candidates who are interested in replacing Cache County Executive Craig Buttars who was appointed last month as the commissioner of the state Department of Agriculture and Food.
Applications are open until Jan. 15 at 5 p.m. and must be emailed to the Cache County Republican Party Chair. The new county executive will be selected by the Cache County Republican County delegates on Jan. 30. More information can be found here.
A special election will be held later this month to replace Rep. Lawanna Shurtliff who passed away in December.
The special election for House District 10, the seat Shurtliff left vacant, will be held on Jan. 16 to ensure it is filled before the legislative session begins on Jan. 19. Residents living within the district can declare their candidacy with the Utah Democratic Party until Friday at noon. Democratic delegates in House District 10 will have the opportunity to vote for Rep. Shurtliff’s replacement. More information can be found here.
