SALT LAKE CITY Will people still have to wear masks in Salt Lake County after the state mandate expires? For some places, yes. County leaders will be making an official decision on a potential mask mandate, but Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson is calling on everyone to continue to wear masks for the foreseeable future, no matter what the decision is. Here in Salt Lake County, please continue to wear a face covering, Wilson announced during a press conference at the Millcreek Community Center.
The actual decision on whether or not the county will have a mask mandate isn t solely up to Wilson. The leadership of the Salt Lake County Health Department will determine if they believe a mandate is needed. The County Council is expected to vote on the matter on Friday, basing its decision on the recommendations of health officials.

SALT LAKE CITY Utah s capital city will continue to have a mask mandate Saturday and beyond while the rest of the county s mandate will expire along with the statewide order that expires Friday night.
Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall announced Wednesday that Salt Lake City will keep its mandate in place in all public settings beginning Saturday. The order was supported by the Salt Lake City Council. The mayor signed a proclamation that will keep the city s mandate in place from Saturday until the mayor rescinds the proclamation, or ends the city s state of emergency. We need to keep doing what has worked: wearing masks, she said, standing near the steps of the Salt Lake City-County Building. My job is to protect the people who live in this city, to try to protect the people who work in this city, and to protect the businesses who employ people here.
Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson announced on Tuesday that masks will be required in all county buildings, even after the statewide mask mandate ends on Saturday.
According to a report from KUTV, Wilson has expressed concerns about the mask mandate ending because only about one-third of Salt Lake County residents have been vaccinated so far.
A county-wide mask mandate can’t be implemented by just the mayor the Salt Lake County Council must give its approval. That body is expected to hear from the county’s health director this week and they will move forward from there.
Wilson has continued to encourage residents to continue wearing masks anywhere in public until enough people can be vaccinated.
