The biennial championship was originally scheduled for May but was first postponed to August due to the COVID-19 crisis before being moved to Oct. 3-11 when the Danish government extended its ban on large gatherings.

BAM had earlier expressed their interest to host the Malaysia Masters and Malaysia Open in a safe bubble environment between March and April next year. On Friday, Senior Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said local sports tournaments in Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) areas were allowed with an audience capacity of 10 per cent or a maximum of 4,000 people.
