Abuja, Feb. 16, 2021 A Bill to curtail the proliferation of illegal arms in the country has passed second reading in the Senate.
This followed the presentation of the lead debate on the general principles of the bill by the sponsor, Sen. Uba Sani (APC-Kaduna) during Tuesday’s plenary.
The Bill is titled: “A Bill for an Act to alter the Firearms Act to among other provisions, increase the imposition of fines for offences, provide for the destruction of firearms illegally imported into the country”.
Leading the debate, Sani, the chairman Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions said the bill was first read on the floor of the Senate on Nov. 25, 2020.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state has revalidated his membership with the All Progressive Congress (APC) as directed by the national caretaker committee of the party.
El-Rufai, accompanied by his Deputy, Hadiza Balarabe, state, and national Assembly members, and other top government and party officials, revalidated their membership card at his Ungwar Sariki polling unit in Kaduna North local government.
Although the Governor did not make any statement after completing the registration process, the deputy Governor lauded the process and urges all and intending members of the party to ensure they participate in the exercise.
Other APC leaders including the Speaker of the Kaduna state House of Assembly and the Senator representing Kaduna central, Uba Sani also registered at their various polling units at Rigachikun and Kawo respectively.

The Senate on Wednesday confirmed the nominations of Ahmed Kuru and Bello Hassan as Managing Directors of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigerian and the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, respectively.
The confirmation of both nominees followed consideration of two separate reports of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions.
Also confirmed are Ebelechukwu Uneze and Aminu Ismail as Executive Directors of
AMCON; and Muhammad Ibrahim as Executive Director of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.
