The 7-mile bike ride is an annual event to pay tribute to fellow bikers and raise awareness about bike safety during Bike Month, which is in May, Amy Easter of the Winston-Salem Cycling Advocacy Network says.It started in Dallas, Texas, in 2003. Winston-Salem held its first Ride of Silence in 2012 and has done it annually ever since.Greensboro also held a Ride of Silence on Wednesday night.In addition to the ride, the Winston-Salem Cycling Advocacy Network has placed white ghost bikes around the city, along with educational signs showing statistics and reminders at intersections and greenways.
