Bike share launches

Alexander Cramer/The Park Record Summit Bike Share is back for the season, with its May 1 launch date the earliest in the program’s history, according to Summit County. The e-bike public transportation system started in 2017 and has grown to include 190 bikes and 20 stations scattered across the Snyderville Basin. The most popular sites are in Kimball Junction, across from Fresh Market and at the Old Town Transit Center, according to the program’s website. A mobile app shows how many bikes are available at each stop. Rides cost $3 for 30 minutes, $96.44 for a resident annual pass or $32.15 for a monthly pass.

(WFIE) - The COVID-19 Crisis Response Fund of the Greater Evansville Region has awarded two new rounds off allocations. The 15th round granted $282,000 to 12 nonprofit agencies and the 16th round granted $347,000 to another 12 organizations. Officials say a total of 28 organizations applied for these two rounds. Grants for these two rounds will go toward funding mental health and suicide prevention training, after-school programming, financial literacy classes and transportation services for vulnerable populations. Money will also go toward underwriting building upgrades, the Delaware courtyard project and upgrades to the Bike Share program.

City Of Long Beach:City Begins Construction Of Solar Canopies At Public Parking Facilities

Subscribe Phase one of the City s solar energy PPA includes installation on the rooftops of public parking facilities City Place A (50 W. 6th St.), City Place B (50 E. 5th St.) and City Place C (50 E. 3rd St.) in the Downtown area. The solar energy system totals 415.2-kilowatts, capable of generating electricity equivalent to power 60 homes. The project will reduce the City s carbon footprint by an estimated 530 tons while the City s utility partner, Southern California Edison, transitions to green technology to meet its goal of 80 percent renewable energy by 2030. The solar arrays will also provide covered parking for approximately 130 parking spaces, improving the experience for public parking customers.

  TORONTO The City of Toronto has decided to opt out of an e-scooter pilot project due to safety and accessibility concerns. City council’s unanimous decision Wednesday applies to both shared and privately-owned e-scooters and will see Toronto’s existing ban on the use of the vehicles on public streets, bike lanes, sidewalks and other public spaces upheld.  The provincewide, five-year pilot project, which began on Jan. 1 2020, allowed municipalities to approve the use of the vehicles on roadways or on the shoulder of a highway with municipal bylaw amendments in place, In a report released last month, accessibility advocates had argued the scooters present safety hazards, especially for people living with disabilities and seniors, when encountering them illegally operating on sidewalks.
