Covid to find place in school textbooks.
PRAYAGRAJ: Students enrolled in around 1.59 lakh government-run primary and upper primary schools of Uttar Pradesh would soon get to study a revamped syllabus incorporating content on Covid-19, Vedic Mathematics and Namami Gange scheme.
As per changes approved by the Basic Education Council at a recent virtual meeting chaired by director (basic education) Sarvendra Vikram Bahadur Singh, students of classes VI to VIII would now be learning threadbare about Covid-19, which would be included in their science syllabus.
Besides, Vedic mathematics has been included in the course for students of classes IV and V, and Namami Gange for those of classes VI to VIII.

A couple allegedly sold their newborn to a businessman to purchase a second-hand car for Rs 1.5 lakh in the Kannauj district of Uttar Pradesh.
The maternal grandparents of the child approached the copes on Thursday and lodged a complaint against the couple. The incident took place in the Tirwa Kotwali police station area. Shailendra Kumar Mishra, Inspector Kotwali said that the grandparents alleged in their complaint that their daughter and son sold the newborn baby boy to a Gursahaiganj-based businessman to buy a second-hand four-wheeler for Rs 1.5 lakh.
The Uttar Pradesh government has converted 15,000 primary and upper primary schools into English medium, with a view to modernise the education system. The move is aimed at honing English speaking skills of children studying in the government schools, right from the beginning, so that they can compete with missionary and convent school students. Nearly 1.83 crore children are studying in more than 1.5 lakh primary and upper primary schools in the state. In Lucknow alone, around 60 primary and upper primary schools have been converted into English medium schools. In every block, two or three schools have been developed much like the private schools.

LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday announced fresh Covid-19 restrictions, imposing night curfew in districts with over 500 active cases and closure of all schools and coaching institutes till April 30.
Uttar Pradesh chief minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath, while chairing a review meeting said, Night curfews will be imposed in districts which report 100 coronavirus cases daily or have 500 active cases.
Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav claimed on Tuesday that voices of dissent have started surfacing within the Uttar Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He also claimed that various senior officials in the administration and police are not attending phone calls from the Chief Minister s Office (CMO), despite directives. When BJP leaders were making claims of their victory in the next state Assembly polls from the dais during the party s working committee meeting, several office-bearers and leaders were raising their voice against the misgovernance under the party s rule, Yadav said in a statement released by the SP here.
