Twenty six patients died in two hospitals in Delhi and Amritsar which complained of oxygen shortage while officials at many other health facilities said they were struggling to meet the oxygen needs of the patients and appealed to the governments for help.
The first two trains carrying precious medical oxygen arrived in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, health facilities in state-run defence undertakings were opened to civilian COVID patients and IAF aircraft criss-crossed to carry empty oxygen tankers to filling sites as the pandemic situation turned grim in India with a new daily high of 3.46 lakh cases and 2,624 fatalities on Saturday.
The train arrived from Bokaro in Jharkhand. In view of the high demand for oxygen in the country following a record spike in coronavirus cases, the Railways has decided to run Oxygen Express trains to transport liquid medical oxygen and oxygen cylinders across the country. Tankers are being transported on flat wagons by the trains for quick supply of medical oxygen. Two tankers of medical oxygen arrived in Lucknow around 6.30 am while one was offloaded in Varanasi, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Kumar Awasthi told PTI. Each tanker has a capacity of 15,000 litres, he said, adding that oxygen brought by two tankers may be used in Lucknow.

LUCKNOW Apr 24, 2021 (BSS/PTI) An Oxygen Express train carrying three tankers of liquid medical oxygen arrived in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday morning as the state battles a surge in coronavirus cases.
In view of the high demand for oxygen in the country following a record spike in coronavirus cases, the railways has decided to run ‘Oxygen Express’ trains to transport liquid medical oxygen and oxygen cylinders across the country.
Roll-on-roll-off trucks are being transported on flat wagons by the trains for quick supply of medical oxygen.
“Two trucks of medical oxygen arrived in Lucknow around 6.30 am while one truck was offloaded in Varanasi. Each truck has a capacity of containing 15,000 litres of medical oxygen,” Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Kumar Awasthi told PTI. He said both the trucks may be used for Lucknow and a decision will be taken soon.

AGRA: Shortage of COVID-19 vaccines at several vaccination centres in Agra district in Uttar Pradesh forced people to return home without a jab on Saturday.
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Agra said the vaccination drive would resume on Monday as 15,000 doses are expected to arrive by Sunday.
There are about 199 health centres in Agra district where the vaccination drive is going on.

Lucknow, April 17 : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued several instructions including to keep the industrial units operational during the curfew which would be imposed in the state from 8 p.m. from Saturday in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.
He said that a new Covid hospital equipped with all facilities would be constructed in Lucknow s Awadh Shilpgram with the cooperation of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). The health department will coordinate with HAL and immediately start work on this hospital.
