Saratoga Springs Democratic candidates push back after accusatory press conference | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS By Zachary Matson/Staff Writer | June 29, 2021 Shares0 Democratic candidates for Saratoga Springs mayor and public safety commissioner on Tuesday said they thought a Monday press conference about a late-night fight on Caroline Street turned overtly political and failed to offer solutions to the city’s public safety challenges.  During Monday’s press conference, Assistant Police Chief John Catone, who is set to retire early next year, blamed racial justice activists and Democratic lawmakers for perpetuating a “narrative” that Saratoga police officers were racist.   While Catone did not specifically name any local politicians he felt were contributing to that narrative, he did say that some people running for public office had adopted a narrative that police were “racist killers who should be defunded.” At one point, Catone promised to draw on all of his
