Responding to their practical needs, UN Women with support from the Government of Finland has been ensuring their access to food and nutrition through women-managed community kitchens across Nepal. Pushpa Sunar is one of the 123 people employed in the community kitchens, which is providing an income to the women working there and helping to alleviate the care burden among other women, as well as build trust and cohesion in the communities.

Mycelium meat replacement company aims for summer launch of first products Meati, a company turning mycelium (the structural fibers of fungi) into healthier meat replacements for consumers, is prepping for a big summer rollout. Co-founder Tyler Huggins expects to have the first samples of its whole-cut steak and chicken products in select restaurants around the country along with their first commercial product, a jerky strip. According to the owners, the business was booming after the lockdown, especially during the Christmas season, but declined after the second wave of COVID-19. Speaking to GNA, the manager for Area Coded Restaurant, Raymond K. Awotwe, said sales have dropped after the festive season because patrons are afraid to contract the virus at public places like bars and restaurants, adding, “our daily sales have dropped from GH¢1,500.00 and GH¢3,000.00 before and during Christmas to GH¢1,000.00 daily.”

  Patronage of restaurants in some parts of Accra has dropped drastically, following the swell in COVID-19 cases nationwide, operators told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Monday. The GNA gathered that business went up when COVID-19 cases declined and appeared good during the yuletide. However, operators at Area Coded Restaurant, Wine and Dine Restaurant and Step 4 Restaurant at Ashaley Botwe, East Legon, Ogbojo and Madina, respectively, said sales had dwindled within the past weeks. At the Area Coded Restaurant, Mr Raymond K. Awotwe, the Manager, said he made daily sales of between GHC1,500 and GHC3,000 before and during Christmas, but was now making less than GHC1000 daily.
