Netflix To Spend $500 Million On Korean Content Including A BDSM Based Film Moral Sense

At a regional presentation, Netflix revealed that it had accumulated 3.8 million paid memberships in the country at the end of 2020. That tallies with recent estimates published by analysis firm Media Partners Asia and equates to a penetration rate of approximately 20% of Korean households. The nearly $500 million production figure also means that South Korea may account for close to half of Netflix‘s estimated $1 billion Asia-Pacific content budget. That figure may be justified by increasing overseas audiences for its increasingly diverse lineup of Korean content. “Audiences around the world are falling in love with Korean stories, artists, and culture,” Kim Minyoung, VP of content for Korea, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand, said in a blog posting. “The K-Wave, or Hallyu as we call it here in Korea, is a huge moment of national pride and we’re proud to be part of it.”

Ontario police crack down on in-person worship at many churches

Trinity Bible Chapel in Waterloo, Canada | Facebook/Trinity Bible Chapel Multiple churches will be challenging the legality of Ontario’s measures aimed at curbing the spread of the coronavirus, amid police actions halting in-person worship services. The Calgary, Alberta-based Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms announced Monday that they were taking on multiple challenges to the Reopening Ontario Act, which only allows churches to have an attendance of 10 people indoors and 10 people outdoors. These include Old Colony Mennonite Church and Word of Life Mennonite community, both of which were charged by police for holding services in violation of the Act. According to the Centre, at least one of the services involved police giving a brief warning and then entering the building, demanding that they end their worship immediately.

Tethered to the Machine

Last winter, JaMarcus Crews forced his feet, however numb, to walk a paved public track in the town of Centreville, Alabama, until his calves cramped and sweat bloomed across his T-shirt. He knew the route well, from Library Street to Hospital Drive. He’d walked it as a kid, when he was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and determined to shed weight. With freckled cheeks and soft eyes, JaMarcus was built big: 6-foot-1, wide shoulders, a round torso on skinny legs. Now, at the age of 36, he was back again. The diabetes had destroyed his kidneys, and he was trying to slim down so that he could get a transplant.
