Being able to get your tipple from a local supplier and enjoying a glass of vino with your meal at a local restaurant has come as a huge relief to most alcohol imbibers along with those in the liquor industry.
On Monday evening (1 February) President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the relaxation of restrictions for adjusted Level 3, which included the partial lifting of the ban on the sale of alcohol. This follows more than a month of no alcohol sales across the country, which also led to various companies and associations approaching the courts in a bid to reverse government’s ban, which was implemented on 29 December 2020.

JOHANNESBURG - The steep increase in ginger and garlic prices has prompted another investigation - this time by the National Consumer Commission.
The commission is probing seven major retailers for alleged price gouging.
These include Pick n Pay, Woolworths, Food Lover s Market, the Shoprite Group and Boxer amongst others.
The commission said that the investigation was launched following complaints by consumers about excessive price hikes since the national lockdown.

Garlic and ginger prices have gone up significantly in South Africa, over a short period of time.
Woolworths, Pick n Pay, Shoprite and Spar are now part of a probe by the National Consumer Commission.
If found to be in contravention, the retailers could be slapped with a R1 million fine or 10% of their annual turnover.

The astronomical growth in the prices of garlic and ginger has prompted the National Consumer Commission (NCC) to launch an investigation into by various suppliers of the two food products.
The demand for garlic and ginger shot up ever since claims that they could help with Covid-19 symptoms surfaced even though there was no evidence that eating garlic can protect people from contracting the virus according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
