We see this as a way to help,” explains Doug Sombke, President of Farmers Union Enterprises. Sombke is also President of one of the state’s largest farm and ranch organizations, South Dakota Farmers Union. Wawa Inc. is offering a limited-time South Florida Sunrise specialty beverage to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Feeding South Florida. From Feb. 8 through Feb. 21, the handcrafted beverage is available at 28 convenience stores in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami Dade counties. Feeding South Florida is the leading domestic hunger-relief organization serving Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties and a member of the Feeding America network of food banks. The South Florida Sunrise is a frozen beverage featuring layers of lemonade, strawberry and orange flavors. A portion of proceeds from each sale, up to $10,000, will support local hunger relief efforts.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) -There’s a group of young people traveling the country helping non-profits. They’ve stopped in South Dakota where food insecurity is at an all-time high due to the pandemic. Their goal is to help fight hunger in the state. An AmeriCorps team serving in the National Civilian Community Corps Program (NCCC) is helping the non-profit Feeding South Dakota. NCCC is made up of a group of 18 to 24 years-olds that spend ten months serving different non-profits around the U-S.

United Way announces new matching gift from Sandy and George Garfunkel

The monies are being disbursed to nonprofits in Palm Beach County that are distributing food to individuals and families who cannot afford groceries due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “Although there are many needs in our community, food is the most concerning and the most urgent,” said George Garfunkel, a member of the United Way board of trustees and the Alexis de Tocqueville Society. “Local nonprofits need help purchasing and procuring food, but that’s not it. Funds are also needed to help with storage, transportation and staffing. Sandy and I are determined to do what we can do help put food on the tables of those who are less fortunate, and we hope this matching gift encourages others to do the same.”
