Farmers Union Enterprises teamed up with South Dakota Farmers Union to donate 35,000 pounds of pork ribs to Feeding South Dakota.
“COVID-19 continues to impact jobs and many South Dakota families continue to see their grocery budget shrink. We see this as a way to help,” explains Doug Sombke, President of Farmers Union Enterprises.
Sombke is also President of one of the state’s largest farm and ranch organizations, South Dakota Farmers Union.
The donation comes at a time when demand for food has doubled, due to job losses during the COVID-19 pandemic, explains Jennifer Stensaas, Communications Coordinator for Feeding South Dakota. “As we approach nearly a year of service since the pandemic began, we continue to feed many individuals and families who have never needed food assistance before,” she says. “We are grateful to organizations like South Dakota Farmers Union for joining forces with us to help meet this increase
Wawa Launches Limited-Time Beverage to Support Florida Food Bank
WAWA, Pa. Wawa Inc. is offering a limited-time South Florida Sunrise specialty beverage to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Feeding South Florida.
From Feb. 8 through Feb. 21, the handcrafted beverage is available at 28 convenience stores in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami Dade counties.
Feeding South Florida is the leading domestic hunger-relief organization serving Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties and a member of the Feeding America network of food banks.
The South Florida Sunrise is a frozen beverage featuring layers of lemonade, strawberry and orange flavors. A portion of proceeds from each sale, up to $10,000, will support local hunger relief efforts.
The monies are being disbursed to nonprofits in Palm Beach County that are distributing food to individuals and families who cannot afford groceries due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Although there are many needs in our community, food is the most concerning and the most urgent,” said George Garfunkel, a member of the United Way board of trustees and the Alexis de Tocqueville Society.
“Local nonprofits need help purchasing and procuring food, but that’s not it. Funds are also needed to help with storage, transportation and staffing. Sandy and I are determined to do what we can do help put food on the tables of those who are less fortunate, and we hope this matching gift encourages others to do the same.”
