SALT LAKE CITY Growth is an issue that s been on the minds of Utah leaders for some time now. Ask anyone who oversees planning in the state and they ll likely say that the biggest priority is to find ways to handle it sustainably.
This issue isn t unlike a growth issue that emerged at the University of Utah 75 years ago this year. Front-page headlines warned of a growing crisis of student enrollment post-World War II. The crisis got so severe the president of the university at the time even admitted they would have to consider moving the school out of where it was founded.
Felony child sex crimes alleged to have happened 30 years ago have led to criminal charges against a former Cache Valley man.
Steve A. Archuleta, 61, has been charged in the 1st District Court with two counts of sodomy on a child, two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, two counts of object rape of a child and a single count of second-degree sodomy on a child.
An affidavit filed with the court states the incidents of abuse began in 1991 and continued for six years. The two alleged victims â both under the age of 10 when incidents began â disclosed to authorities being sexually abused by Archuleta and Carol A. Ricker in various ways.
A former South Ogden police detective who for years led the investigation into the August, 1985 disappearance of Joyce Yost said he believes Douglas Lovell, the man ultimately charged with and convicted of capital murder for killing Yost, might also have played a role in the unsolved disappearance of another Weber County woman.
