Not all WSU programs are observing the revised Jan. 19 start date for the Spring 2021 semester.
Students at WSU Health Sciences and some students in the Carson College of Business and the College of Veterinary Medicine all will start earlier for various reasons, such as clinical contracts and commitments.
Students in the College of Nursing and College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences will begin the semester on Jan. 11. That applies to students on any campus, so even though WSU Vancouver is observing the delayed start date, for example, nursing students there will begin instruction on Jan. 11.
Medical students in the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine returned to class on Jan. 4. Students in the college’s Nutrition and Exercise Physiology and Speech and Hearing Sciences programs will return on Jan. 11.

Ireland s Fittest Family is set to return on Sunday, January 3, 2021 with host Mairead Ronan and coaches Davy Fitzgerald, Anna Geary, Derval O Rourke, and Donncha O’Callaghan.
Each year, the competition begins with a group of 15-20 families, all of whom will be put through extreme endurance challenges in new locations around the country, from steep sand dunes to airports to Irish bogs and a180-metre ski slope.
This year s series of Ireland’s Fittest Family was filmed over the course of three weeks in August at the new hub at Hell & Back in Kilruddery, Co Wicklow. Set across acres of land at the foothills of the Wicklow mountains, this is the perfect location to put our families through their paces.
Harvard Medical School found that the gut microbiota may be involved in mechanisms affecting muscle strength in the elderly.
The team examined healthy and unhealthy older adults and found that the two groups have a distinct profile of gut bacteria. Further experiments with mice demonstrated a link between the gut microbiota and muscle strength.
Their findings appeared online in the journal
Experimental Gerontology.
Gut microbiota linked to muscle strength
The gut-muscle axis, or the relationship between the gut microbiota and muscle mass and function, has been previously explored in mice and younger adults. However, few studies have been performed with older adults.
