UND rallies for 6-5 win over NDSU at Summit League Softball Tournament

By Chase Miller May 12, 2021 | 9:04 PM FARGO, N.D. – In the longest Summit League Tournament game since 2009, it was the West Fargo native Mariah Peters who came up with the go-ahead RBI fielder’s choice in the top of the 10th to lead No. 6 seed North Dakota past No. 3 seed North Dakota State, 6-5, on Wednesday evening from Tharaldson Park in Fargo, N.D. UND (17-31) trailed by five entering the top of the fifth, but rallied for six straight runs to earn its first win in the Summit League Championships since joining the league in 2018-19 and the second overall postseason win in the program’s Division I era (2008-present).

Men s swimming and diving team make school history

The Coyote men’s swimming and diving team became Summit League Champions for the first time in school history during the Summit League Championships in Fargo, North Dakota April 15-17. With 915.5 points, the men’s team scored the most combined points to become Summit League Champions, while the women’s team scored a total of 663 points, landing them third place.  In three out of the five relays that the men’s team competed in, the team placed first. Sophomore Zach Kopp, senior Cooper Fuchs, junior Brady Torborg and junior Charlie Bean placed first in the Men’s 200-yard freestyle relay. Torborg and Kopp, along with sophomores Mack Sathre and Aidan Gantenbein, won the Men’s 200-yard medley relay. During the last relay of the day, the Men’s 400 yard freestyle relay, Kopp, Fuchs, Sathre and Bean pulled out another win. The other men’s relay races ended in a second place and third place finish.

Coyote swim, dive teams look to finish the season strong

The USD Swimming and Diving teams head to Fargo, North Dakota, this week to compete for the Summit League Swim and Dive Championships. The Coyotes will finally get to compete for both a men’s and women’s conference championship following a season that was extended almost two months due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Head Coach Jason Mahowald said that the extended season and the team’s decision to opt-out against outside competition in the fall had provided some unique challenges this year. “We started in August with the intention of having our championships in February, and having them pushed back to April has probably been the biggest hurdle we have had to overcome this season,” Mahowald said.
