Peak Perspective: Who won each state in recruiting?

The idea for this post came back in February, somewhere during the other twenty or more recruiting posts we featured. However, due to the time needed for all of those posts and then focusing on other news and topics for a while, this idea kept getting pushed back. But no longer.
It only makes sense to review which teams are recruiting the best in each state. After all, recruiting is one of the most significant ways to define if a program succeeds or fails. Given how often a player usually holds offers from many or most of the Mountain West teams, programs are competing against one another for recruits more often than not. While this isn’t accurate in every case (Boise State and New Mexico probably aren’t going head to head for a recruit, for example), it’s true more often than not.

Expect a lot of twists and turns between now and July 1st. But if not every state has legislation or even the same legislation, and the NCAA doesn’t step in before then, things can get messy quickly. Players won’t be paid, but they could make money off ads and endorsements, autographs, and branding from social media. It will certainly bring more room for the dark side of recruiting and tampering to the forefront.

The annual spring game had sides chosen via draft this year. The stakes were steak. The winning team got a steak dinner served on fine china with silverware. The losing team got hot dogs on paper plates with plastic utensils. In true SDSU fashion, the final score of the game was 10-3. In a break from the norm, the one touchdown was of the passing variety.

The Mountain West conference experienced a significant turnover in head coaches during the 2019-2020 offseason. When all was said and done, six head coaches, or half of the teams in the conference, had been replaced. With so much new blood entering the conference, people did not know what to expect from the six new coaches. Now, with a season under their belts, today’s Peak Perspective will take a look back at the 2020 season and review each of the six new coaches and their first years at the helm.
