Lord Narayana’s abode, Paramapada, is a place beyond time, whereas the Earth is bound by time. And yet the Lord chose to come to this Earth on many occasions to save His devotees. He is not bound by karma, but we are, said Kidambi Narayanan in a discourse. When Dhritarashtra weeps for his dead sons, Lord Krishna tells him that everyone operates within the framework of time. Here what the Lord is indicating is that everyone is bound by karma. None can escape its consequences. This being so, how can any relationship be permanent? What use then all the grieving over death? Will the same persons be our relatives in subsequent births?

AAA In his Varadaraja stavam, Kooratazhvan says the Vedas longed to be like Hastigiri, the hill on which Lord Varadaraja of Kanchipuram stands. The Vedas tell us about Brahman the Supreme One. Hastigiri also shows us the same Brahman, albeit in archa form. Why then should the Vedas want to be like Hastigiri?
The desire of the Vedas implies the superiority of Hastigiri to the Vedas, in showing us Brahman, said Valayapet Ramachariar in a discourse. So, what is this superiority? In the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad, there is a section known as Moorthaamoortha Brahmanam. It talks about Brahman being antaryami, indwelling, in all. The Lord wears a yellow garment, and He is white in colour like pure white wool. He is like a lotus. He sparkles like thousands of fireflies (Indragopa) gathered together in one place. It seems as if He is surrounded by lightning on all sides.

The Supreme One chose to incarnate in the Yadu vamsa to show the world the virtues of this family, said V.S. Karunakarachariar in a discourse. In Vishnu Purana, sage Parasara describes the Lord’s qualities to Maitreya while telling him about Yadu, the first son of Yayaati. The Lord has all the worlds inside Himself. Those who want wealth worship Him. Those who are interested in the attainment of moksha also worship Him. His greatness is immeasurable. He has no beginning or end. The very fact that such a One was born in Yadu’s family shows the virtuousness of that family. Even when He was born, He showed that He was the Supreme One incarnate, for He was born showing His four hands. This too was His leela. Rama was not born like that. Rama’s other two hands were hidden from view, and only a few like Hanuman and Mandodari could recognise His Supremacy. Krishna hid His extra hands, only because H

Krishna’s leelas began even before the avatara began, said V.S. Karunakarachariar in a discourse. Parikshit refers to Yadu as the embodiment of dharma. Yadu was the first son of Yayaati, through Devayani, daughter of Sukracharya, guru of the asuras. Because of a quarrel, Devayani asked the asura king to make his daughter Sharmishtha her servant. Later Yayaati married Sharmishtha too. When Yayaati was cursed to become an old man, he asked Devayani’s eldest son Yadu to exchange his youth for Yayaati’s old age, but Yadu and his brothers refused. Sharmishtha’s son Puru agreed to his father’s request.
