KZN Education MEC congratulates tenacious matriculants

DURBAN - KwaZulu-Natal Education MEC Kwazi Mshengu said the challenges the matric class of 2020 had to overcome due to the Covid-19 pandemic had prepared them for any challenges that lay ahead.
KZN achieved a 77,6 % matric pass rate, coming fourth in the country.
Mshengu released the results at an event at the Anton Lembede School of Leadership and Innovation in La Mercy yesterday.
Mshengu said the 2020 matric pupils were pioneers who had faced the Covid-19 pandemic head-on under difficult circumstances that had not been experienced before.
“This is a class that earned the bragging rights for weathering the storm and coming out of it unscathed.

Education MEC, Kwazi Mashengu s been briefing the media in La Mercy, on how KZN s districts performed in the exams.
He says Ugu District got 81,7%, Umlazi District obtained 80,9%.
The third top performing district is Umkhanyakude District with 80,6 %, followed by Amajuba District 80,5%.
Umgungundlovu District achieved 80,3%, Ilembe District 76,9 %, Zululand District 76,7 % and Pinetown District 75,8 %, Harry Gwala District 75,0 %.
King Cetshwayo District got 74,8 % and Uthukela District 73,5 % lastly, Umzinyathi District 72,6%.
The Class of 2020 in KZN received over 51 000 Bachelor passes and over 35 000 Diplomas. 18 000 received Higher Certificate passes.
KwaZulu-Natal is expanding its vocational training opportunities for learners and matrics with the opening of two new technical schools and the piloting of technical subjects like robotics and other vocational subjects that will be taught at school level in 2021.
KZN Premier Sihle Zikalala made the announcement during an event to mark the release of matric results for the class of 2021 at the Anton Lembede Mathematics, Science and Technology Academy in La Mercy.
Special message for average matriculants and those who failed
Zikalala commended the matrics who passed the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams saying their hard work had paid off but he added that he wanted to send a “special message” to all those who had not earned a diploma or bachelor pass and those who had failed.
