Kearney scored 11 runs in the third inning on their way to a 15-7 victory over the North Platte FNBO Juniors on Tuesday at Bill Wood Field.
North Platte (2-3) got ahead in the first inning. They scored the first run when Cooper Hill singled to left field. Ty Robinson then walked on four straight pitches from Ryan Knipping with the bases loaded. Then Tyler Townsend hit an infield single to score another run before Isaac Irish made it 4-0 with a sacrifice fly ball to right.
In the second inning, Kearney got back in it with two-out singles by Beau Knapp and Carson Murphy, making it 4-2.
Norfolk sweeps Juniors
Sports
Norfolk took both games late on Sunday as they swept the North Platte FNBO Juniors, 5-4 and 7-4, at Bill Wood Field.
“I think our inexperience came out today,” Juniors coach Ryan Jones said. “They were a little high on themselves after yesterday and I don’t think we were as ready to play today as we were yesterday. It was a couple of close ballgames. It could’ve went either way and unfortunately, we lost both of them.”
In the first game, North Platte (2-2) went up in the first inning when Cooper Hill hit a two-run double that landed near the foul line in left field.
Juniors sweep Columbus
Sports
The North Platte FNBO Juniors opened the season on Saturday by beating Columbus, 3-2 and 9-1, at Bill Wood Field.
It was the Legion baseball debut for all 12 players on the Juniors. The Juniors didn’t have a season last year, due to COVID-19, as the North Platte program chose to field just one team.
“It’s huge, none of the kids on the team played a Legion baseball game,” Juniors coach Ryan Jones said. “With what happened with COVID last year, it’s a new team and we’re very young. To go 2-0 against a team that had a really good high school season, that says a lot of the potential we have.”
