Gonzaga’s Jalen Suggs put the Bulldogs into the men’s basketball national title game Saturday with a buzzer-beater three-pointer to send UCLA home.
Suggs’ shot to end the game was being put into the same conversation as Lorenzo Charles’ game-winning lay-in as one of the best moments in men’s basketball tournament history.
For Gonzaga, the shot meant a little bit more as the team has been on the opposite side of that type of close game.
Adam Morrison led Gonzaga to a regional semifinal loss to UCLA in 2006. Morrison had 24 points as Gonzaga fell to UCLA, 73-71. The Bruins team at that time included future NBA players Arron Afflalo, Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, Darren Collison, Jordan Farmar and Ryan Hollins.

Who will win? Gonzaga, 84–83. No halfcourt shot needed this time, but it will still be witheringly tense. Since I’ve picked Gonzaga all along I will ride with the Zags, although I’m concerned about them hitting the wall in the final 10 minutes after the expenditure Saturday night.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Jalen Suggs took the inbounds pass and saw nothing but clear sailing. Three dribbles. Past the half-court line. A little stutter-step.
And straight into history.
The Gonzaga freshman banked in a shot at the buzzer from near the Final Four logo for a 93-90 overtime win over UCLA on Saturday night that vaulted the Bulldogs to within one win of an undefeated season and the national title.
Talk about a perfect finish!
This thriller in the national semifinal was the best game of the tournament, and, considering the stakes, it served up possibly the best ending in the history of March Madness a kiss off the glass from near midcourt to keep a perfect season alive.
