Date Time Little Desert Burn Camp 2021 After much planning, preparation and anticipation, 30 CFA volunteers from 22 brigades and six staff members from Districts 6, 15,16,17 and Headquarters completed burns at Minimay and The Little Desert Nature Lodge as part of a week-long burn camp. The five burns successfully reduced fuel loads and protected biodiversity. The burns were conducted in small mosaics across the grasslands and Mallee heath and interspersed among private land allotments. They offered members extensive training, mentoring and skills development. It also exposed members to fire in a controlled and safe environment. DCO Alen Slijepcevic congratulated all the CFA members who took part in this successful burn camp.

Kington Langley Croquet Club kick off season with inter-club derby

KINGTON Langley Croquet Club kicked off its summer season with an inter-club derby in the absence of the usual regional competition. Normally at this time of year, the club’s two Short Croquet teams – the Apaches and the Braves – head down to Nailsea to compete in the South West district short croquet competition, but this has been cancelled this year due to Covid. However, Kington Langley’s John Grimshaw, who normally organises the Nailsea tournament, organised a home derby between the teams to ensure the competitive juices remained flowing. This was the first competition of the year for most participants, but some very close games were fought.
