Dunfermline: Halbeath Retail Park extension given another year

PLANNING permission for the long-awaited new Lidl store and Marks and Spencer Foodhall in Dunfermline has been extended for another year. The addition of nine new shop units at Halbeath Retail Park, a development that promises to bring 200 jobs, was given consent by Fife Council in August 2017. Work has yet to start but the owners, Royal London Mutual Insurance Society, have been given more time. Planning consent normally runs for three years and last year, due to the pandemic, it was extended to April 7, 2021, with a council spokesperson confirming this week it s now been extended again until March 31, 2022. Dunfermline councillor Ian Ferguson said: There was a big fight when this originally happened about how much money the developer was going to have to pay for roads etc.

Dunfermline s hugely popular music and arts festival back in 2022

THE Outwith Festival will return with a six-day celebration of arts and music in September 2022 – and there may even be some taster events this year. There were fears, following the demise of main funders and organisers Delivering Dunfermline, that the arts and music extravaganza wouldn t come back. A huge success that s grown year on year, the festival had to be cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic but a new team of volunteers will resurrect it from Tuesday, September 6, to Sunday 11 next year. Michelle McWilliams said on behalf of the team: “We no longer have a full-time paid events manager nor the financial input from Delivering Dunfermline.
