New musical director to lead the Pathfinder Hand Bell Choir
Lori Grace
The next musical chapter of the Pathfinder Village Hand Bell Choir starts this year in Edmeston, with the arrival of a new director, Maisy French of West Edmeston. French succeeds director of Enrichment Services Paula Schaeffer of Fly Creek, who has retired after 23 years in the role.
Although the pandemic has prevented recent live performances, the Bell Choir will hold a virtual concert later this year to engage its fans and followers.
Members of the ensemble have served as Pathfinder Village ambassadors since the group began in 1982. The group has performed for civic clubs, schools and church groups and has been featured at the National Baseball Hall of Fame’s Holiday Celebration for many years.

Historic 160-Year-Old Cider Mill Near Cooperstown Closing
A message posted to customers on Facebook states the Fly Creek Cider Mill and Orchard is closing on Sunday, January 31, 2021.
Another family favorite destination may be closing for good due to the pandemic. The water-powered cider mill on the banks of Fly Creek has been pressing cider for 162 years. Many families look forward to the wagon rides, the duck pond, and the famous cider tour.
History of the Fly Creek Cider Mill:
Now in its 162nd year, Dutch settlers in Fly Creek Valley called the low-lying swampy area “vlie.” Over time “vlie” turned into “fly,” hence the hamlet’s unusual name.
