IHC attack case: Court issues notices to 21 lawyers

Top Story February 19, 2021 ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday issued notices to 21 lawyers for misconduct and ambush in the court. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Athar Minallah and comprising Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb and Justice Lubna Saleem Pervaiz sought reply from the lawyers within one week. The Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) President Haseeb Chaudhry, Riasat Ali Azad and other lawyers appeared before the bench. During hearing Chief Justice Athar Minallah observed that this is not his personal issue, but directly relates with the sanctity of the court. “We would send references against lawyers involved in the IHC attack, under the law,” he said.

The protesters have given authorities a 48-hours ultimatum to accept their demands. The rally conducted by Islamabad Bar Council originated from Islamabad District Courts and consisted of lawyers from the twin-cities. The rally began from Jinnah Avenue and reached D-Chowk with lawyers chanting slogans on the occasion. Lawyers demanded that the arrested lawyers be released and FIRs against them be withdrawn. They have also asked for the demolished chambers to be rebuilt. They said that if their demands are not met within 48 hours, they will gather at D-Chowk once again and announce the next course of action.
