Supreme Court judge Justice Qazi Faez Isa said on Friday that treachery with the Constitution was an action that would be punished in this world and the hereafter.
Addressing a conference on Fundamental Rights and [the] Constitution organised by the Islamabad High Court Bar Association, Justice Isa said that a violation of the Constitution would fall into the category of treason. Betrayal of the Constitution will be punished not only in this world but also in the hereafter, he said, adding that without the Constitution, the federation would break up and the state or concept of being Pakistani would also come to an end.
“Every person who comes to power bends the Constitution to serve their personal motives.”
Justice Isa noted that the violation of the oath falls under the category of treason and was punishable by death under the law.
“Many constitutions came and went in Pakistan, we learned a lot but just not the Constitution,” he said, adding that the interpretation of the Pakistani Constitution in the national language was necessary.
“Pakistan was founded by the Quaid-e-Azam, the largest Islamic country in the world. Today, half of that remains because East Pakistan separated from us,” he noted.
“It happened to us because we did not follow the Constitution. The greed of the people compelled them to reject the Constitution. Those who were supposed to protect it violated their oath.”
ISLAMABAD: Justice Qazi Faez Isa of the Supreme Court of Pakistan will highlight fundamental rights as per Islam and the Constitution, at an event organised by Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA).
IHCBA formally sent a request to Justice Isa to attend the event, scheduled to be held on April 10 at the Quaid-i-Azam Hall of IHCBA.
It can be mentioned here that Justice Isa is visiting the IHCBA at a time when majority members of the elected body including its president Zahid Mehmood Raja are facing a case for storming the Chief Justice Block of the IHC; on Feb 8, 2021 a handful of lawyers attacked the block and detained judges for a couple of hours.

ISLAMABAD:
Despite playing an important role in the restoration of judges in March 2009, the image of the legal community has been badly affected due to a high number strikes and incidents where large groups have displayed an alarming level of rowdy and violent behaviour. Even the justice system seems to have been taken hostage by them.
In cases where one lawyer has displayed violent behaviour, several others have often banded with him. In cases where a lawyer has been arrested for said violent behaviour, hundreds of others have tried to foil arrest attempts, protested outside courts and taken to streets in strike attempts. The scenes often resemble more closely to those of thug-like street gangs rather than upstanding citizens in charge of upholding and protecting the law.
ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday sought a reply from the incumbent president of Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) Raja Zahid Mehmood as well as 20 other lawyers in connection with storming the Chief Justice Block.
A three-member IHC bench headed by Chief Justice Athar Minallah directed the lawyers to submit their respective replies by March 29.
Raja Shafqat Abbasi contended before the court that this matter should have been dealt at the Bar Council level on the very first day, but the delay made this issue more complicated.
Justice Minallah remarked that he wanted lawyers to bring the truth on the surface by themselves.
