Although the cease-fire between Israel and Hamas is being carefully observed, the calm in the Gaza Strip is far from stable. The agreement, reached with American backing and Egyptian mediation, gave hardly any details on further arrangements, sufficing at the first stage with a promise of quiet in exchange for quiet.
But we’re left with potential detonators that could trigger a new conflagration, even if this wouldn’t seem in the immediate interest of Israel or Hamas. These potential sparks concern how Israel might react to future hostile acts from the Strip, the closure of the Gaza crossings and the tensions in the West Bank and Jerusalem.

A series of blazes torched fields in southern Israel Tuesday, but fire officials said they were not the result of incendiary devices launched from Gaza, as a sensitive ceasefire with the Strip’s Gaza rulers remained in place.
The Israel Fire and Rescue Service said it put out “a number” of small fires, none of which posed any danger to people.
The service said two of the fires appeared to have been intentionally set by arsonists, but denied that Gazan balloons were responsible, and rejected claims by some locals of a coverup designed to keep a lid on tensions with Gaza.

INDIANAPOLIS Indiana’s governor is traveling to Israel in the wake of the ceasefire to the 11-day conflict between Israel and the Gaza’s ruling Hamas terror group.
Governor Eric Holcomb’s office announced Tuesday morning he would be in Israel Tuesday and Wednesday at the invitation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The Republican governor cited business and cultural ties between Indiana and Israel for making the trip.
“I stand in support of Israel and look forward to meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu to continue forging an even stronger Israel-Indiana bond,” Holcomb said in a statement. “When I was invited, I did not hesitate to make this trip to meet in Israel during such an hour of need.”
