Dergview boss Ivan Sproule has paid tribute to his players, his coaching staff and his physio following their dramatic Irish Cup win over rivals Ballinamallard United at Ferney Park this afternoon.
A titanic tussle went to penalties after goals by the Mallards’ Darragh McBrien and Ross Taheny cancelled out strikes by Matthew Kirk and Cathal Farren.
In the shootout it was the visitors who ultimately held their nerve 9-8 with Graeme Crown hitting the winning spot-kick.

Sproule felt his team deserved the narrowest of victories.

GIVEN the circumstances, Dergview boss Ivan Sproule believes that more than ever winning Saturday’s Irish Cup tie will come down to whichever team wants it more on the day.
Both Dergview and Ballinamallard go into the eagerly-awaited cup-tie, which will be played in front of empty stands at Ferney Park, with limited preparation time following a period of four months with little or no activity.
It’s been far from an ideal situation for both clubs and Sproule admits build up has been anything but normal.

McGuckin released by Dergview

JUST days before their eagerly-anticipated Irish Cup clash with Ballinamallard United, Dergview have released striker Emmett McGuckin.
Last week McGuckin informed Derg boss Ivan Sproule that he had signed a pre-contract agreement to join Premiership outfit Carrick Rangers next season.
The club subsequently took the decision to release the former Coleraine forward despite the fact that this coming weekend they face the Mallards without a number of regulars through injury.

Confirming McGuckin’s departure a club spokesman said, “Emmett McGuckin has left the club.
“The player informed manager Ivan Sproule on Thursday night that he had signed a pre-contract with Carrick Rangers and Ivan Sproule and the club has taken the decision to release the striker from his contract.

DERGVIEW boss Ivan Sproule has cancelled an in-house bounce game this coming weekend to give some of his injured players time to recover for next Saturday’s Irish Cup clash with Ballinamallard United.
Andy Sproule and Sean McCarron both limped off during Saturday’s 2-1 friendly victory over the PSNI with the pair rated extremely doubtful to be fit to face the Mallards at Ferney Park.
Skipper Blaine Burns and Philip Wallace are also facing a race against time to be ready for the competitive return with a number of other players carrying minor knocks.
